Alyssa Beard

Montreal, Canada
She/they

The main focus of her practice as a teacher is to conceive movement as a vessel for cultural memory — using dance to carry forward the Black American experience and the traditions she comes from. Alyssa's proposal is to dive deep into history and lived culture through the body, treating lindy hop not just as a dance but as an act of preservation and passion-sharing.

Dancer and Teacher based in Montreal. Alyssa Beard (she/they) is a neurodivergent Black queer femme from Baltimore, Maryland, where she first entered the dance world through her grandmother. She moved to Texas and grew up immersed in Latin dance, nightclubbing, mosh pits, and country dance, before eventually finding her way to lindy hop.

A member of the Frankie Manning Foundation, Alyssa now calls Montreal home, where she teaches on a mission to spread her knowledge and passion for the Black American experience while continuing to dive deeper into her own cultural traditions.
